Columbus Pride was today, so our No Kings event was part protest and one part massive celebration.

Columbus Pride always shows the loving heart and joyous soul of Columbus.

They underestimate how much we love each other and the power of that love.

"We make eggs many colors. Then a rabbit comes in your house and hides them for the children and also brings a basket of chocolate and candy...."

"But once the kids sleep, YOU are the rabbit!"

-Me trying to explain American easter traditions to the refugee family.

They were so, so confused.

This little girl is my grandma with her little brother and my great grandmother who I called Grammy.

Nothing speaks to the universal experience of motherhood more than that finger pinning down my Grandma's wiggly arm.

Genealogy brings humanity to the names on a family tree. I love that finger.

My Ohio rep Anita Somani showed up for the people of Ohio. So proud she represents us. #ICOTownHall

@indivcentraloh.bsky.social putting on a town hall because Ohio’s Republican senators and reps won’t meet their constituents.

Join us to help fight for regular people to have a voice.

Just ordered myself these bc there are five adults who need to learn to drive in this family and it is not my first time at the new driver rodeo.

My new shirt arrived. I don’t usually wear shirts with words but dark times require drastic measures.

My mother in law came to Chinese new year bearing gifts

The refugee family is so awesome.

Today we worked on reading using this book I had used with my own kids. It is a highly structured phonics method. I ❤️it.

12 yo is at lesson 23 after two sessions. 7yo busted out in a full long english sentence. 3 yo mimicked what I said verbatim, no accent.

It has been a rough week for our new arrivals. Their furnace wasn’t able to keep up with the arctic cold. Míserable.

Upside is our 23yo friend has had an English explosion. He went from 2-3 word sentences to long 1-1 conversations with me in only a month. He is an enthusiastic learner and sweet!

Well shit, Columbus. January cold is apparently not going to give us any breaks any time soon.

I was trying to buy a painting on an auction website last night. It was clear I was going to lose, so instead I bought Kid21 this sketch of boobs.

It seemed like something a new women’s college grad would like in their first bohemian apt, so I took the risk.

She is stoked, so I was right!

I enjoy TikTok, but I know enough ab Chin.a’s state surveillance to have no doubts that they are collecting and using TT user data.

I count 133 visible cameras in this photo of a train station I took in HK (each light has 12 and others under the overhang on the walls). They’re collecting data.

It seems like the weather channel could allocate this space on their app to something a little more useful in January.

As we were preparing for our refugee family, we heard about another family of 10 from Congo who was not paired with a welcome group.

I thought it would be nice if we used our network to buy Xmas gifts for both families. I made an amazon list for gifts, stockings and the basics we still need.

Then I thought, why not ask our suburban moms board for books and dvd for the kids?

People are generous.

So now my house looks like this 🫠

I have volunteered with refugees off and on since college.

This is the first time I have helped new arrivals. Our group was assigned a family of 10 arriving this week from Congo who have lived in a refugee camp for a long time.

I am posting about that process this week bc it is what I am doing.

Kid18’s was adopted from China and naturalized as a US citizen as part of that process.

Her passport was going to expire in 2026. We are taking no chances with trumps immigrant bullshit, so now she has a brand new 10 year passport.

Once her certificate of citizenship is back I will sleep better.

I am going to a political strategizing meeting today.

If you live in Ohio, what do you think would move the needle where you live?

What issues matter in your community we could get traction on with nonvoters or swing voters?

Malicious compliance for the win!

No not wide! Here are mine.

Do you not have a basement? I do know is a basement gets wet it is usually gutters or grading. We have a walk out that is not actually under ground so there is no water getting in there.

The only reason I care ab leaves is apparently ice dams fuck up the roof.

It is that magic light time of year in Ohio.

(If you aren’t from the lower Midwest, it is very very gray here-like no blue skies for weeks- from Nov-Feb. This is a SAD light, to put fake sunshine in our eyeballs.)

Fridge clean out day for someone with a sensitive gag reflex is always rough.

Just looking at the expiration date is sometimes making me gag.

Also, it appears we have a mustard buying problem.

I was copying over my old twitter archive and ran across this from covid times. I feel like we are probably back at the beginning.
