REMADE - Roman & Early Medieval Alloys Defined
@remade-uor.bsky.social
UKRI Future Leaders funded project led by Dr Peter Bray based at University of Reading - Archaeology. We're examining the chemical composition of copper alloy artefacts from across the UK using pXRF and MP-AES analysis, looking for reuse & recycling.
We're all set up at @romanpalace.bsky.social! Looking forward to chatting with lots of people and striking some replica Roman coins! #FestivalOfArchaeology

We've been busy with some experimental #Archaeology & have been striking our own coins! We had some custom dies made - official & barbarous portraits of Tetricus, the project & the @uniofreading.bsky.social logo. We've got enough for a hoard now! #FindsFriday

A very hoppy #FindsFriday - an adorable little crouched hare plate brooch (only 2cm long!). It has a tinned surface with bands of niello inlay and a hinged pin. It was found in the Forum Basilica excavations at Silchester #Roman Town. #Easter #Archaeology

Team day in the lab, looking over copper alloy finds from Silchester #Roman town. We were being quizzed on brooch identification by Owen, the REMADE finds specialist.
Many of these finds have already been chemically analysed by the project (non destructive pXRF & tiny samples too) 🏺 #Archaeology
