FPTP also encourages divisive politics. It is not just about what happens in one election, consider also the insidious impact FPTP has in causing extremism.

Note that a good system is more than merely PR for parties though, it is a system that gives voters choice, and represents their choices.

If enough voters demand it, we will get it. I wish we already had it, but in many ways momentum seems to be building.

PR is about representing voters, in proportion to their votes. Not giving a party on either side with just a third of the votes full control.

It also encourages long-term thinking and stability.

FPTP allows a government with far fewer than half the votes to have outright control.

No system protects us against a party having 51% of votes having outright control, but with PR you need half the votes before gaining outright control, whereas with FPTP you do not.
