Brands is a real bandwagoner. I was unimpressed with this book on China. In 2020-2022, I read 5 identical red-and-yellow covered books about U.S-China conflict that were different configurations of the same topics and facts as each other, with bare differences of analysis.

I think this paragraph is instructive as to why people find your arguments dishonest. You call his claim "misleading" but echo what he says. You talk about fascism, but mostly you mean conservative state-level policies over specific issues. Weighed against a genocidal "liberal" establishment.
