Probably one of my most technically challenging embroidery pieces to date. Last year we missed a friend's wedding while I was in the NICU with our son, so for their 1 year anniversary I embroidered his wife's bouquet :)

Finished up my embroidery of "The Triassic Cuddle". I learned quite a few new techniques with this one and it was the first time I've added felt to a piece!
A hoop embroidery on black fabric of the fossil known as The Triassic Cuddle. There is a lizard skeleton curled into the skeleton of an early mammal. Around the fossil are various 3D plants, rocks, and branches made from thread and felt.

Sometimes you have to buy the white alligator skin, gold trimmed, mirrored headboard at the thrift store for $12.

It sat above: The sound of their voices. The smell of rain. Real rain. Here, the pen changed color to red. A year ago. She hadn’t found a pen that color in a long time. My favorite book. How her lips tasted. It wasn’t just scarcity that created this amnesia. It was the containment. Something about the radioactive chemical barrier surrounding her entire world ate away at the mind. It was nothing like dementia. Things just ceased to exist. Sometimes the memories simply vanished before she could feel them slip away. The rest—she knew when the fog was closing in around them and wrote them down. She didn’t know why. Why it mattered. But it had mattered once. And so she would keep the cryptic diary until the memory of that was eaten too.
