‘from the boundless deep’, an etching & aquatint - edition of 5 prints! one of my more ambitious prints this year, and I’m really happy with it :3
a large print of a merman in a net being pulled out by sailors’ hands. the scene is surrounded by a border in which deepwater fish swim - an anglerfish, oarfish, squid and other freaky fish. the print is in shades of blue. it has been printed from a metal plate etched in acid.

Gilded using the water gilding method - I bought a wood board that had already been treated with gesso (a plaster like substance), I then covered it with armenian bole & fish glue (red stuff!), applied fake gold, which I then burnished with an agate stick after it dried.

The substance is now dry and I carved the outline of the painting into it. A photo where the same panel has been wet with water and is about halfway covered with thin gold pieces. A wide brush made of squirrel hair is visible in the left corner. The same panel but now fully covered in gold. The gold now appears fully stuck to the panel as it had bren burnished and smoothed out (to the best of my ability - there are visible imperfections in the gold).

got the second print run of my trans angel riso print back from the printers a few weeks back! It’s inspired by portugese tiles, and I cleaned up the yellow a bit more to make it warmer and brighter 💛

ever since I saw #Conclave I’ve been kind of obsessed with the aesthetics & ritual of the catholic church, which is kind of ironic as I’m an atheist and deeply critical of the catholic church as a whole. they really do go off with the aesthetics though 😔 you can get these in my shop now!

It’s an etching + aquatint, printed from a metal plate that was etched in acid five times to achieve first the lines and then the texture that creates the shading. An edition of nine prints is up in my shop rejka.bigcartel.com 🍇

here is a small print that I managed to finish on sunday! etching + aquatint, based on that one scene with jude law from the film wilde.

I am now considering expanding this into a whole series of queer film scenes that make me feel a certain way (feel free to suggest your favourites!)
