I love that idea - knowing that not every game has to suit your tastes or preferences exactly, but wanting it to be the best it can be for the people who will enjoy it.

Unless suggestions are actively being solicited, focus feedback on answering the designer’s questions (e.g., did turns feel too long, what were you thinking during a particular aspect of the game).

As a play tester have a well-rounded knowledge of games/game mechanics and know your personal biases. And then put that information to the side the best you can while playing to be present in the experience. During the feedback phase, make your lens and bias clear to the designer.
