Just to give you an example:

I am mostly interested in consuming content related to gacha games, and such content is generally very hard to come across on the fediverse compared to Reddit.

They are clearly taking a gamble with this AI-centric approach which I am sure a lot of people won't like. As for myself, well I have been checking out other alternatives like Piefed and Lemmy, but being honest here, I think even Digg has more potential for the general masses than those two.

This is one of the examples of AI usage on community posts:

AI-generated summaries.

I haven't really noticed any glaring issues with their implementation yet, but that might change in the future. I'll be checking it out regularly for sure since I want to stop using Reddit at some point.

So, I can say that, on paper, it seems very risky because of the AI usage, however, if they can somehow pull it off while also having more user-friendly features such as a much less restrictive API compared to Reddit, I think it can definitely be successful.

And this time, they are also leaning heavily on AI usage to handle moderation tasks (spam, hate speech, misinformation, etc.) as well as nostalgia for those users that missed the old days of Digg.

It is yet to be seen what the extent of the AI usage will be but keep in mind it will be there.

It can mostly be summed up like this:
- They want to revive the early web's sense of discovery and real community while avoiding modern social media's problems like echo chambers, toxicity and overwhelming moderation.
- It will still focus on sharing and voting on links, with user-led communities.

To be honest, I didn't actually use Digg ever and only knew about its existence recently, primarily due to me wanting to find alternatives to social media platforms I was already using at the time.

So, what I know is basically what the founder (Rose) and co-founder of Reddit (Ohanian) have said.

Yup, that's the one. It came back from the dead recently.
