Also, do bigs cut hard and fast or seal their defenders anymore? They're just out there roaming in or near the paint with their defender(s) and then on top of being in no man's land and out of the offense, they aren't in any position to possibly get an easy putback or rebound.

This is why the offense has to be better.
And my guess is if they cut that water off, the Spurs will unload from three and hope they make a lot.
