Neither did I, but I can't bring myself to hate the film. I enjoyed watching it a lot.

Estaba de acuerdo con tu plan hasta que mencionaste a Gadot.

The ones that made me raise a brow are people criticizing del Toro's take on Elizabeth.

Nah, there's a number of people that dislike it because they believe it's not as good as the book.

I've been invested in dissecting this movie's intent and themes and comparing it with the book. I find it fascinating.

I love the movie—there are so many beautiful things about it that I simply can’t dismiss.

Guillermo just indulged in his own fan-fiction version, and I respect that. I understand why some people don’t like it, but it made me realize that interpretations of art can be selfish. Sometimes you don’t want to adapt something “deep”, and what’s deep for one person might not be for another.
November 10, 2025 at 5:29 AM
It makes me reflect on how I like nuanced stories, flawed heroes, sympathetic villains, and even unreasonably evil ones—something Guillermo himself enjoys interpreting. It’s like wanting to create my own version of a story, even if I end up “watering it down.”
November 10, 2025 at 5:29 AM
It’s watered down in some aspects but not all. After watching the Netflix documentary, I realized del Toro is aware of what he’s doing—his “watering down” was intentional, a choice to explore something different.
November 10, 2025 at 5:29 AM
One could say that Guillermo del Toro made it less nuanced and more black-and-white, and yes, it does feel watered down for “stupid illiterate general audiences.” But I don’t agree that it’s devoid of depth; there’s still a lot to dissect in the characters.
November 10, 2025 at 5:29 AM
But then the book purists fire back, saying: what’s the point of adapting a story if you’re just going to make it shallower and easier for general audiences? After thinking about it, I’m 50/50.

People on Twitter are actually mad that Frankenstein (2025) is too different from the book—it’s the usual book vs. movie discourse. Book lovers argue that the film waters down the nuance and depth of Mary Shelley’s original story, while movie fans insist that different interpretations are valid.
November 10, 2025 at 5:29 AM
But I quickly accepted the film as its own thing, and sure it might not be as nuanced as the book version, but I still loved it for what it was. The original story still exists for anyone to read. And people dismissing these valid criticisms about the movie are kinda dumb too.
