And no mention of AI should be allowed anywhere without a huge warning about the environmental consequences of its use! We seem to be pretending it doesn't use absolutely fucking ENORMOUS amounts of energy, substantially adding to climate-altering emissions. SMH

It is so disheartening (if not surprising) that we've gotten here. Theft has somehow been codified as fair use. It began with social media sites making money by reposting content they had not paid for, thereby hollowing out nearly all news media. Now they intend to destroy art and writing as well

I'm not saying violence doesn't have its place (Stonewall, for instance), but the times when it is effective are far outnumbered by the times it's not. Violence against the elite causes then to harden their positions and use their greater weapons to increase oppression.

Civil rights was to an extent won through violence, but it wasn't the violence of those seeking their rights. It was the virulence of violence perpetrated by their racist oppressors that convinced LBJ and the world that change must come

Holding powerful men accountable through Me Too. Gay marriage, interracial marriage, all came about nonviolently. Abortion rights, both the gaining and the losing of them, came through moral persuasion, and the regaining of them will, too.

Women's suffrage was won through moral persuasion, not violence (yes, I am aware there was some violence, but that's not what won the day). The Great Society redistribution of wealth which brought us Social Security, Medicare, and other essential programs also came through persuasion

And yes, for the most part all deaths in war are murder, because those who advocate for and benefit from war are never the ones who die when one is fought.

This is not a war for the very simple reason that the other side has far more powerful weapons than we do. Mark my words, this act will change nothing and, despite the bellicose rhetoric, the people will not rise up to demand it.

This too shall pass and nothing will have changed except one man is dead and another will spend most or all of the rest of his life in prison. I'm not enough of a pacifist to believe that all death in the name of justice is wrong, but this act will not bring about lasting change
