I still remember being told paper is expensive and eBooks will be cheaper, especially if they also don't incur sales tax.

I've mentioned to Titan's Amazon metadata intern you didn't write a book called "Becky Chambers"... 🙄

That's not such a big deal. Whereas this Swiss drain - sorry, dragon - cover commemorates the defeat of a dastardly sewer serpent.

Ireland's new Adverse Weather Shield (AWS) has been activated to mitigate the impact of Storm Darragh.

Please note this is an entirely different cloud-based service to any which might collect data to help you spend money on stuff you don't need.

And there's BlueSky forecast for the weeks ahead.

Today I cycled 2000 feet down a Utah mountain-side. Thank goodness for gravity.

I've come second in a flash fiction competition for the second time!

Inspiration, imagination and daring to be a bit different were the key ingredients.

Follow the link to read more about how the competition judge viewed these ingredients, the ~300 word story itself, and what prompted it.

Trekked ten miles today to Hanging Rock in the Blue Mountains. Spectacular scenery. Not for vertigo sufferers!

Sad news is I didn't win the Writers' & Artists' short story competition. But the good news is you can now read the story I entered!

It's a big departure from my usual speculative fiction and poetry. But it seems to stir readers the right way. You be the judge.

There's a whole different world out there, in here and even inside us, just waiting to be explored. This very different stuff matters. If only we could see, touch or taste it. It's so beyond our experience that it's tricky to portray it even through fiction.

I'm imagining a potential future synergy of Bluesky’s open social AT protocol and Substack's publishing tools. It could be a wonderful publishing experience.

Is marriage becoming a mechanism to stave off relative poverty and boredom?

Or are we creating a future that's unfit for the children who will inherit it?

What if it isn't only biological and physical realities which will prevent us from venturing into space, but also the human fictions of insurers, lawyers, politicians and money?

Thrilled to announce I achieved second place in Hampshire Writers’ Society’s November competition.

Love the judge’s comments. It's very gratifying when a reader ‘gets’ all the little influences and references I might include in a piece.

Yesterday, Sunday, I walked around my local countryside for 2½ hrs. It was a bit windy, but wasn't raining or cold.

I saw horses, pigs, cattle and hectares of stubbled fields. But I passed not a single other person on foot. Not one.

This more modern human world is becoming a stranger to me.

My floof wants to meet your floof. (I've repeatedly told her this is highly unlikely because, y'know, fiction.)
