to keep the flower analogy, dan hengs case is unique but ultimately can be described as "if df is a white lotus, then dh is a blue lotus" the discourse surrounding his identity always annoys me, hes clearly his own person. his fate was on the same track as df, and he changed it through trailblaze

(i also keep thinking about that one vidyadhara npc that keeps falling in love with the same person, he "tampers" with his own rebirth to keep something to remember her, which leads him to this loop of looking for her+being jealous of his previous selves)

this is also why im annoyed that welt randomly quotes her in 3.7, in a context that makes no sense. the entire point that was made a Patch Prior is that if she did that to ampho, it "wouldnt be the same" and they tried to stop her. it disappearing and reappearing eventually is not equivalent to that

but the issue is that it wouldnt be the "same flower", so while its One way to "change" ""your"" fate, ultimately its a copout
dan heng seems to imply though that he still managed to change it by meeting tb (or rather "trailblaze")

(which they confirm in 3.6 when he says hed do similarly drastic things for His friends)
the analogy is essentially, if a red rose dies, the only way for "that flower" to survive is to grow from a seed again, except this time it became a blue lily instead

its very symbolic, and basically refers to: if you want a persons fate to change, they need to have all their memories wiped. essentially reroll the dice of fate
dan heng, as a result of his rebirth being tampered with and retaining some memories, would be "fated" to make the same choices as df
