Graphic designer from Chicago. Bears fan. Music fan.
So they’ll air it in the shadow of the Bears/Rams game? Amazing how quickly a storied broadcast and media giant can be tarnished.

Create a problem or crisis, then “solve” it to make yourself look good.

I learned things that month, specifically test-taking skills, that changed my life, helped a great deal when I attended and graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Proud to be a CPS graduate, but I know they have a lot of challenges and a lot of work to do.

I tested into Kenwood Academy, another magnet school, in 1982 but only stayed for 7th grade. In high school, prior to my junior year, I attended a summer seminar at Whitney Young with about 20 of my classmates. 3/4

Pointing to Whitney Young as some model of "inner city" success is misleading. It was purpose-built to be a magnet school, to attract the best and brightest from all over the city, and so it's no surprise they have outstanding results. 2/4

Yes it's in the "inner city", but only in the most blunt simplistic way. Is the Loop considered the inner city? Mag Mile? River North? West Loop? The school sits next next to the CPD training academy. Very safe location. To the west of the school on Jackson are million dollar brownstones. 1/4

Whitney Young is not an “inner city” school in the usual way that term is used. It’s one of the top high schools in the state and has been for years.

I stop and listen every time you’re on CNBC and MSNBC. Thanks for telling it like it is.

Imagine yourself explaining something in your world that’s very technical to a room full of 7th and 8th graders. I explain the basics of HTML and I rarely get past the box-object model.

I change my analysis. Washington looking strong. Last team with the ball wins.

Detroit is the team of destiny here. Commanders have already succeeded in turning around. Just need to keep from getting blown out here. Jayden Daniels is amazing, but has plenty more time to go deep in the playoffs.

You’re not a designer correct? It’s ok to have a preference. Univers is gorgeous when used correctly.

This is a side effect of smart phones and if we’re not careful, we could lose something important. I’ve seen articles recently about children who can’t write cursive, and college students who can’t finish a book. Also side effects of smartphones (and video games) shortening our attention spans.

It is for the vast majority of people, but there are tons of writers, editors, and designers who know this stuff and use it daily. Yes, language, communication. But have you noticed how bad some folks grammar is? And shortcut spelling? That’s our written language eroding…fast.

I design books and typeset the interior pages, so this stuff is top of mind for me.

…a dramatic pause, an aside, or clarification, fiction or non-fiction. There are many more uses, but those are the basics and cover 99% of what most people need. The double dash is from typewriter days and is the same as the em dash. I hope this does not come across as pedantic or mansplaining…
