Hey, I just saw this little mini review! I’m the dev for Dice Trek, so thanks for giving it a go! I actually agree with the problems you pointed out and I’m in the middle of a redesign for the dice system. Hopefully it’ll make the game more intuitive and fun! Thanks again for giving it a go!

Bump mapping added by converting the worley samples into a heightmap, and finally, the overspill from the HDR colour range is used to provide a "glow" map which is applied as a mask to the dark side of the planet to let the emissive materials shine through the light.

Yeah I played mass effect as well, hahaha, I’m well aware of how annoying scanning planets can be. This is like a one or two time per run thing, and you don’t have to scan much of the planet AND it’s designed for a mouse 🤣 Planets are going to have more roles than just scanning as well.

An example directive would be "Brace For Impact", which reduces Crew damage by 50% for that turn, but increases damage to Systems by 25%. You can move back and forth between directives manually, but it has a cooldown. You can also acquire new directives over the course of a run.

Little games about stuff accurate to the real world always fascinate me. I've got so many concepts for things like orbital mechanics or archaeology/paleontology, etc, but I always find it hard to gamify them in satisfying way without losing the "true to RL" aspect :(

I have an artist I occasionally work with on side projects, and he always starts complaining to me whenever I ask him to do icons in 16x16 hahahaha.
