1) Zohran’s win in the face of immense red-baiting and racist hysteria has electrified the country. The capitalist media and political class have tried to attack him on precisely the issues that shape his mass appeal, from his open identity as a socialist to his opposition to the genocide in Gaza.

Of course the Bolsheviks fought against Economism, the effort to reduce the workers movement to bread and butter demands.

But the article shows how this critique was made not from the outside, but by those deeply involved in building up worker institutions in their own right.

In some sense the Russian revolutionaries carried out a “rank and file strategy”, with early intellectuals and college grads orientating to blue collar workplaces.

But this strategy was less about grads taking factory jobs, and more about recruiting organic worker leaders.
