It turns out I do enjoy James Gunn's stuff a lot, so it's nice that we're in a time where there's a bunch of it!

But yeah, if you ever want to do a deep dive, I have just the guy for you to talk to!

Or if you need a buddy to watch the whole Scooby-Doo movie with, lmk - I think we have a copy!

Including the Troma roots and connections which was a little bit like this...
a man in a blue shirt and tie is pointing at a bulletin board with a lot of papers on it .

Ha, thanks, but I think the real credit goes to my walking-movie-ecyclopedia husband here.

I think somehow it came up (a long time ago? Like around/after Guardians Vol. 1?) that I genuinely really like the Scooby-Doo movie, and it prompted a whole James Gunn education session. 😂

Yessssss lol.

I'm so glad someone else I know is in on this now!

But yes.

FD Bloodlines is really good, and worth sticking out the whole series for.

Even if it's just to see Tony Todd's sweet in-universe but also real life send-off.

😭

And I'm glad it did in the movie, too.

Safety precautions are there for reasons, y'all! 😂

But Bloodlines has one too, and I enjoyed it immensely.

Not quite in the same way, and not in the way that I laughed at other kills in the franchise, but definitely the same satisfaction.

Like, that was a series of bad decisions, and in real life it would only end one way...

Y'all.

The way I absolutely howled with laughter.

Because it was the first time I'd actually seen a movie choose consequences for some dangerous side action, and it was soooo satisfying.

Anyway. I feel like those scenes are really rare...

Then there's Ghosts of Mars.

I barely had time to think about yelling, and then *schwooooop*!

Dude cuts his finger clean off.

And THEN!!

Another character, played by Ice Cube, says this:
November 12, 2025 at 7:47 PM
Or a big dude in an action movie has a Big Knife, and is just flinging it around.

Usually I'm yelling at the TV (or doing it in my head, if we're in a theater):

Dude! Don't hold it like that, that's how you lose a finger!

But somehow, nothing bad ever happens and everyone's fingers are intact.

A quick aside - there are a couple of FAFO scenes in movies that I really, really enjoy.

Like, have y'all seen Ghosts of Mars?

So... here's how similar scenes usually go in other movies:

A chef is in the kitchen chopping stuff, holding whatever they're chopping in a super unsafe way...
November 12, 2025 at 7:47 PM
The last 5 movies have kind of taught us the setup for the kills, and when to expect them.

There were a few moments in this movie where I was READY...

And then nothing happened. 😂

Only for something to happen spectacularly a little while later.

What happens when someone survives, and then goes on to have a whole family?

What counts as family?

Also, how does family/society treat someone who thinks they're being followed by close death at every turn? Probably like an unwell, paranoid, dangerous person, right?

We see all of that here.
November 12, 2025 at 7:17 PM
Yep, everyone was right - this one was really good!

It definitely took a lot of the ideas/tropes from the previous movies, and turned them on their heads in a couple of ways.

Like, the whole premise of trying to outrun/avoid Death coming for you...
November 12, 2025 at 7:17 PM
lol

Incredible.

Before I get into this one, can we just take a second and appreciate the sister poster designs?

They really went hard for this movie.

All I wanted to do was finish up posting all of our #OctoberMovies, bc we watched so many good ones this year!!

And laundry. And maybe scheduling a few appointments.

So that's what I'm doing this afternoon, because I finally have some down time.
