"Fortunate Son" by Creedence Clearwater Revival is a protest song explicitly about privileged men dodging the draft while the working class if sent to war. Trump— who got multiple deferments, including one for "bone spurs"—is almost a textbook example of the "fortunate son" the song criticizes. So playing that song during a parade for Trump is: 1. Irony #1 (standard issue): The song is anti-establishment and anti-privilege. Trump is a billionaire ex-president. 2. Irony #2 (draft dodge edition): The lyrics target draft dodgers from elite backgrounds. Trump is one. 3. Irony #3 (tone-deaf deployment): Whoever chose the song either has no idea what it means, or they do-and they're trolling hard. So yes, it's not just ironic—it's meta-ironic, like watching a satirical character play himself straight.
