this is all to say that should democrats win the house and senate this november, they should hold similarly dramatic — which is to say televised and highly publicized — hearings on the conduct of ICE and CBP, with testimony from victims. we want as much of *this* as possible in the record. (3/?)
ICE detained Arlit Maria Martinez on her way to work. 2 days later, her 15 yo son died of cancer. They wouldn't let her out to say goodbye. The family had planned to move back to Mexico prior to the cancer diagnosis but stayed for his treatment. Now, Mr Martinez has lost his wife to ICE & his son.
Teen dies of cancer days after mother arrested by ICE: ‘She’s never gonna see him’
The mother's family pleaded with federal officers for her release from custody to say her final goodbyes to her son, but their requests went unanswered.

However, in the Reddit thread linked above, buried underneath all the confusion and misinterpretation is a link to a YouTube video from June 2006 called “Dan’s Bucket list”, currently at 961 views. But note of course that YouTube titles can be changed retroactively. youtu.be/yTBzFA0FV-k?...

This piece (which links to a few other sources) suggests the 2007 movie as the originator.

Edmans is a full prof and presumably tenured. Edelman wasn’t and was possibly denied tenure because of the controversy he was involved in (I just googled him and he’s currently involved in a case against Harvard)

There actually was a Prof Edelman involved in an online kerfuffle, Ben Edelman, formerly of Harvard Business School. This is from 2014 so I’m both impressed and annoyed that I remember this…

Just found this amazing rally between 19yo Mika (ranked #577) and Botic van de Zandschulp. During a Zug challenger, only about a month before Goatic beat Alcaraz in straight sets at the US Open.

Great thread. Reminds me a bit of comparing *any* young talented black female tennis player to Serena Williams, regardless of how wildly different their actual playing styles may be.

Wonderful tribute to Keaton with a few tidbits that I hadn’t read before, including her side job as real-estate investor and her mostly anonymous patron of the arts/photography
