Unfortunately, some people look at life through mostly a mercantile lens, seeing life as a series of transactions. The common good, justice, equality, love, empathy, charity, education and curiosity, collaboration, and self-control, demand far more lenses than that.

The concept of "ordered liberty" is so important for Americans, but especially our leaders. Meaning we should have freedom, but not the freedom to hurt or kill others or take away their rights. Liberty should have some limits to maintain "order."

I believe America needs a dose of positive psychology. High schools teach this to teens sometimes. It teaches positive character traits like honesty, self-control, love, kindness, curiosity, bravery, open-mindedness, enthusiasm. The Positivity Project website has 24 character traits to focus on.
