Fangraphs currently projects the Red Sox to be worth 41.3 WAR in 2025, which would rank 13th in major league baseball. It would also mean that four other wild card teams finish ahead of them for a playoff spot. Their current worst positions are C (1.3 WAR), SS (1.4 WAR) and DH (1.7 WAR).

Fangraphs currently projects the Red Sox to be worth 41.3 WAR in 2025, which would rank 13th in major league baseball. It would also mean that four other wild card teams finish ahead of them for a playoff spot. Their current worst positions are C (1.3 WAR), SS (1.4 WAR) and DH (1.7 WAR).
Brendan Campbell is reporting that the Red Sox are signing outfielder Kolby Johnson to a minor league contract. Kolby Johnson hit .308/.380/.459 with 32 steals for the Staten Island FerryHawks of the independent Atlantic League (comparable to AA or AAA).

Brendan Campbell is reporting that the Red Sox are signing outfielder Kolby Johnson to a minor league contract. Kolby Johnson hit .308/.380/.459 with 32 steals for the Staten Island FerryHawks of the independent Atlantic League (comparable to AA or AAA).
The Red Sox have acquired C Blake Sabol from the San Francisco Giants in return for international bonus pool space. Sabol is a lefthanded hitting catcher who can platoon with Connor Wong and is above average at framing pitches. Also can play other positions, which Cora likely appreciates.

The Red Sox have approximately $24 million in salary room remaining below the first luxury tax threshold. They could sign another relief pitcher like Jeff Hoffman or Kirby Yates, a platoon hitter like Randal Grichuk and a backup catcher such as Yasmani Grandal and remain under the luxury tax.
