I didn't get far with the Brahms. 🙄. But then I'm currently rediscovering Haitink's '70s Concertgebouw cycle. Very satisfying...wonderful playing! ❤️

I did buy it! I haven't heard the Japanese SACDs but these are such an improvement on the 1970s vinyl (generally 1 mvmt per side obvs helps) more "air", orchestra doesn't sound "pinched" any more. Certainly better than my generic CDs...

If it's the music of your teenage years thay stays with you most, then with me it's David Bowie and that HvK SOUND!!! Just spent a fortune on these remastered Bruckners on 17 LPs...my they sound great, esp the 8th! 🤎

I've been going about #A-Haydn-A-Day in my own way since I got stuck on Klemperer! Tempi can be leisurely but always full of humour (the "Clock" 2 mov is my all time favourite!). Can't stand pedal-to-the-metal Haydn! 😉
