I teach college and saw several examples of first-grade handwriting levels already. Not just sloppy, things like lower-case "r"s reaching the top line with the other letters. What on earth is happening out there?

But there are humans trained to help with that, too. Problem is, they have to be paid. So companies aren't hiring them anymore.

To be fair, the article specifies addicts not neurodivergent people, and it's not coerced... yet. But this does sound like a ramp-up to Maoist China, and that went just so well for everyone.
