I know nothing of your workload, but FWIW most fixed computing hardware remains serviceable to at least 10 years now, if not more. Consider software upgrades as an alternative to a full refresh. If things don't work out, your licenses likely remain valid on the new hardware.

The only firewall against rampant populism/disinformation that I can think of is the abolition of FPTP. but even that will only go so far. Perhaps it might give us enough time to figure something else out.

I've always thought folks should be submitting odometer readings to MPI annually; then pay an axel-load-km-mill-rate surcharge on top of their insurance. I'd like to see what that would do to the popularity of pavement princesses and new roads.

I think the better question here is how much heat the planet can radiate. If this allows us to meaningfully reduce atmospheric CO2 levels (through capture or fossil fuel emissions) it matters much less. And it's got to still be many orders of magnitude less than received by the sun.
