So last week I finally listened to Sticky and it was a mishmash of at least 4 songs with no resolution.

When I was growing up, there was this serious emphasis on not been seen or heard. As kids we were told to shut up all the time. And as I started to embrace music, I was always afraid to sound bad- so I never really tested the limitations of my voice. In 2025, I’d like to sing poorly and loudly.

Black folks know this, but I need everyone else to understand it too.

The term ‘woke’ started in the Black community. It was about being informed, educated, conscious of social injustice & racial inequality. Now, hyjacked by the right & weaponized against us. That’s why I’ve left the word behind.
