Execept, the Washington Redskins have changed their name to the Washington Gun-Takers, because Jackie's parents have led a protest against the Redskins name being racist so the team changed their name to sell more merch to protesters who were only buying it to burn it.

Both he and the horse are drooping in exhaustion and perhaps defeat. The largest image is a close up of his face in black and white. He is in his seventies. He has large, dark eyes, no facial hair, and almost no eyebrows to speak of. His face is deeply lined. He looks questioning and somber. This slide contains one image from the 2015 movie Pan showing Tiger Lily and her tribe. Tiger Lily is played by white actress Rooney Mara where the rest of her "tribe" are played by indigenous people from different races and ethnicities. This slide contains one image not from the Canadian Shakespeare Festival production of Peter Pan, but rather from an ancient Greek mosaic depicting the mythical Amazon warriors, a race of women who fought bare-breasted and were superb archers. I chose this image because I couldn't find any photos of the actual Amazon costumes from the production.

A Chinese woman, Anna May Wong played her in the 1924 silent film and and an Argentinian woman, Maria Pogee played her in the 1979 Broadway musical. In 2003, Carsen Gray of the Haida tribe in Canada played her in the film and in Neverland in 2011 Q'orianka Kilcher of the Quechua-Huachipaeri tribe played her.

This slide contains 5 photos from the Twilight saga of the Quileute tribe who are the werewolves in the movies. Jacob is played by Taylor Lautner from Shark Boy and Lava Girl, and Harry Clearwater is played by Graham Greene. The real life Quileute tribe gave no permission for Stephanie Meyer to use their history & culture in her books or the films, and received no monetary compensation.

This slide contains 3 examples of Hollywood Indians from F-Troop and Gilligan's Island. In two episodes of Gilligan's Island, the natives are wearing "war paint", grass skirts, and built a totem pole. In F-Troop, which is set after the civil war in a military fort, all the fictional Hekawi tribe members are played by Jews. They have a "Playbrave Club" with Go Go dancers. This slide contains 8 photos from movies and TV shows that depict the Magical Indian trope. Those shows are The Howling, Brotherhood of the Wolf, Little Big Man, Walker Texas Ranger, Desert Heat, The Lone Ranger with Jonny Depp playing Tonto, and the first Wonder Woman movie.

Day 7 of Native American Representation Matters slides for Indigenous Peoples month. Enjoy!
This slide contains one photograph from 1927 of a Hueco grass hut, which housed 10-12 beds. It has a wooden frame and is thatched with grass. It is dome shaped. There are two replicas in Waco that you can see. One is at Cameron Park Zoo in the Brazos River exhibit and the other is at the Mayborn Museum complex in the Natural History exhibit. This slide contains one photograph from 1912 of a group of Heuco Indians tht were brought back to Waco from Oklahoma for the Cotton Palace Exposition, as an entertainment. White people built the village for them to stay in, which is why you can see tents in the background rather than grass huts. There are 30 people in the photo, a mix of adults and children, males and females. They have tense and uncomfortable expressions in the photo.
