Todays “baking” adventure, tried my hand at making a German classic - “Kalter Hund”, or Cold Dog.

Went for a ride down Southern Walnut Creek Trail and hopped over to Town Lake Trail. Got a pretty good snapshot of the City Skyline. Looking forward to doing this again once everything is alive and growing. #cycling #atx

First batch of Pfeffernüsse complete. As soon as the Back Oblaten arrives I can get a start on the Lebkuchen. Starting to smell like the Holidays in here. #baking

First frost of the year in my little corner of Austin. Hoping the Blackberry canes will get the message and hibernate already. I feel like I’ve been pinching laterals off laterals for the last few months. Looking forward to first harvest next year. 🌱

A few late pictures from my visit back home. I love New England in the fall.

Blackberry canes are near the end of their first season. I really didn’t think they were going to grow as much as they have. Each plant has two primocanes and each primocane has two lateral branches. I keep tipping more branches on the laterals every week. 🌱

The blackberry canes have reached the first trellis wire. The unexpected berry from the original cane is starting to look like a real berry. 🌱

The blackberry canes I put into the raised bed have already begun to flower and shoot out new canes. Might see a few berries in the next few weeks, unexpected! 🌱

Little late on the uptake, still not great at the social medias. 🫠 But our Zither Concert in Hanau had 200 people in the audience, and we were in the German Newspaper. 🎶

Haus Anna an der Stadtmauer in Hanau has the most beautiful garden. I think our back yard needs a tower... 🤔

Finished building the trellis into the raised bed this afternoon. Only thing left to do is to let the blackberries grow. 🌱

The raised beds have finally been installed in the back yard and the first blackberry canes have been planted. Next weekend I’ll assemble the trellis, but they won’t really need it for a little while. 🌱

Sometime in late December / Early January I cut a pretty mature shoot off my snake plant and put it into a pot expecting it to root. In the process, it grew a shoot out the center that has budded! Never seen this before, I can't wait for it to bloom. 🌱

This year in April I am traveling to Hanau-Steinheim in Germany to participate in the International Zither Gathering. The participants will be performing in a concert at the end. My morning coffee time has turned into practice time - only seven weeks left to learn my parts. ☕🎶
