Preview of a short story I'm working on; inspired by Look Outside, The Monsters are Due on Maple Street, and the painting The Morning Visitor by Dino Buzzati, this story is about an entity that changes those it happens upon, and the affected individuals who must make sense of their new reality.
A brief excerpt from a short story, which reads as follows: Over at the post office, Andy the mailman was getting ready to start his mail route. It was seven o’clock now, and he had a long day ahead of him. He only saw the visitor briefly in his rear view mirror as it approached from behind, but even though he had just turned the engine of his mail truck on, he did not have enough time to press down on the gas pedal before the visitor acted on him. Perhaps it did not understand that Andy and his truck were two separate entities, one of which was but a lifeless hunk of metal, yet all the same the two became one, changing form to accommodate the visitor’s idea of what they were supposed to be. Seemingly satisfied by what it had done, the visitor moved on.
