Not helped by large helpings of British exceptionalism in their 1950’s & 1960’s schooling. Drooling over colonial era maps where half the world was “pink”… I try to unpick my parents’ prejudice, but it sits on a bedrock of white, British superiority.

I think it might have something to do with intake sizes and the two-tier system in the 1950s (Secondary Modern vs. Grammar)… when I was at secondary school in the 80s, it was a period of retraction. A lot of secondary schools had been split into junior (11-14) and senior (15/16) but were coming /1

For me, an articulated or fixed body goods vehicle with a high up drivers cab. If the cab looks the same as you get with a panel van (transit, vito, etc) then it’s a box-van or Luton. East London/Essex.
