Residents are facing burst pipes, spoiled food, and uninhabitable homes.

On December 29, 2025, Pimicikamak Cree Nation declared a state of emergency following a power outage that impacted the Cross Lake area.

While power has been restored, frigid temperatures have severely impacted community infrastructure, including a water treatment facility.

Angela Hill, Communications Expert with the Canadian Red Cross, shares, “while the conflict is ongoing and emergency help is needed, Canadian Red Cross is thinking ahead to what will be needed to help people with injuries reintegrate into society.”⤴️
