Capricorn with Gemini ascending (so I'm told). Architect, Engineer, Lawyer, University Professor. Brit, living in Moscow. Cryptic crossword afficionado

Owned by cats, and a duck I saved.
Very saddened by the death of Mrs Kent, former music teacher at Wansbeck Primary School in Hull. 13 years of pupils there probably remember her with affection, and her unaffected down to earth style.

Otherwise known as the Duchess of Kent - only the Head Teacher knew who she was.

Thoroughly enjoyed the new Superman film last night. Good hokum and visual effects. Some very naughty baddies and a very good dog - and I had my question answered about why the Fortress of Solitude needs steps when Supes can fly. Plus some good characters and threads for a sequel! Well done all!

Times today muses about what single painting "captures" Britain. My pick - Corporal Daphne Pearson GC by Laura Knight. Google her. For me - it captures native values of service, vigilance, unassuming character but with a spine of steel, defiance in war and a whole lot more that was her.

Worth reading. For where it was probably made, by whom, and what it reflects. None of which I'd ever thought of, and was in direct contradiction of what I learnt at school.

Currently embarked on a rewatching of the X Files. Only S01 at the moment, and I remember its story arc got more ragged towards the end of over 200 episodes. But I am really enjoying them. Rationing myself.

Good advice from my online chum and former Chief Fire Officer (who knows a thing or two about keeping people safe).

If you see this, please pass it on - may just save somebody
Smartphones in UK should receive a test of the Emergency Alert system at 3pm on 7th Sept.
10 second siren will sound even if your phone is on silent.
If you have a secret phones kept for safety, such as Domestic Violence, you’ll want to turn off Govt notifications ⬇️

Pro tip - turn off 2 step verification on your Google account before doing a factory reset. It's almost impossible to get everything back up and running - including logging into Google Play.

The administration webpage of your wifi router is the only tool you need to get teenagers to do the household chores.

Regular changes to the network name and password work wonders.

Sometimes takes a while to take effect - but I've never had to wait more than a few hours.

A screengrab apparantly from yet another Superman outing. I wonder why he needs a staircase at home - wouldn't he just fly upstairs? You never see his washing machine or smalls on the line either. And SuperDog....that's a new one from the comics - wonder if Superman cleans up after him too.

One of my superpowers is when asked, to offer names for the children's new cuddly toys. I tell them it's their choice - but so far they are happy with names like Rainforest for a parrot, Scuttle for a crab, Claws and Nipper for a large and small lobster and Curly Wurly for the 4m snake.

Apparantly Glastonbury has started. Although I've always preferred classical, this year is the first year I've not heard of any of the musicians. Sign of advancing years I guess.

I remember the days when check in staff opened your passport to see if it contained a current visa for your destination country (if you weren't a national).

Must be trickier now.

Starmer comes off a poor second next to a real Chief

Never thought about it, but how would you pack such a headdress. Do they fold flat, and how do you protect the incredible length and richness without damaging it?
