Forgot to take more pictures during, but I’m making the most of the time off by teaching myself some new game systems. This week was the Jours de Gloire rules by Fred Bey. Started off with one of my favorites, Jena. Surely botched some rules, but felt thematic and gave a surprisingly tense game!

Trying to keep myself sane during shutdown with a Pint Sized Campaign for Chain of Command, with a twist. @herrbrush67.bsky.social & @andycrow.bsky.social will be acting as COs, choosing supports and issuing broad orders for each game and I’ll play the actions out. #spreadthelard

Thanks to a great shot from a Pak36 a perfectly-timed mortar barrage, and a string of three phases just when he needed, young Owen gets a second unit of the table to secure victory!

Some 1940 Chain of Command with the boy. Would help if I’d read the scenario (Blitzkrieg) correctly, but still hanging in there. #spreadthelard

Suffice it to say, Owen had a great time playing games at Historicon!

Historicon bound!

First play of my most recent Kickstarter - WWII Commander Vol II Market-Garden from @compassgames! Only three turns in but really enjoying it. Nice operational feel without too much crunch!

Game continues…the results of not calculating close combat dice before charging, a Senior Leader survives two teams getting wiped at around him (for which the platoon suffered no force morale loss), and a game of cat and mouse. More to come tomorrow! #spreadthelard

Started my first proper playthrough of #chainofcommand2 with my son last night. A “Swift to Support” scenario from the 1940 book. The boy’s VBs made short work of my gun, but it’s starting to get tense! So great to finally see the new edition across the finish line! #spreadthelard More to come!

Been spending sometime with my colleagues at Richmond NBP the last few days. Cold Harbor, Gaines’s Mill, and Malvern Hill. Been some beautiful days for battlefield walking!

A false start led to resetting and trying a different mission (Escort Duty). This is where we left it tonight. About to get intense…

Starting the boy’s first Sharp Practice game. Will be playing over several days. Stay tuned! #spreadthelard

The Battle Road 250th commemoration kicked off last night with the Patriot Vigil at the North Bridge at Concord. A beautiful, poignant starting place for this weekend’s festivities!

Always forget to take more photos, but had a chance to get my Boers on the table for the first time with #TMWWBK; a fun, swingy game enjoyed by both players!

Thanks to @herrbrush67.bsky.social for running a great game of #silverbayonet for us today! First time for Owen and me, and we really enjoyed it! Owen was excited he took out the first werewolf!

One of my regular gaming opponents came over today to show off his self-produced game, Hail of Fire (www.wargamevault.com/m/product/18...). A fun, little company-level WW2 game with some clever mechanics! Played to a conclusion in about two hours, too.

Snatching victory from defeat, the Micks capitalize on over aggression from the Germans and stop the counterattack cold!

Some festive #Spreadthelard with a Chain of Command game tonight. *Loosely* based on the defense of Djebel Bou Aoukaz by 1st Irish Guards. Tunisia, March, 1943z

Owen and I begin our foray into the world of hex and counter. I’ve always been a bit intimidated by them, but the Blind Swords series seems like a nice entry point!

Should also note this is the first time in over two years that the ACW battlefield ranger has played an ACW game.

From 2022-2024 our family endured pediatric cancer. Owen is doing great, but we wouldn’t be where we are without support. We’re fundraising for one of our favorite groups who help families like us in the Richmond area. If you’d like to help, check out this link! secure.qgiv.com/event/2025as...
