The US does not build any merchant shipping nor does it own any, 4 of the top 5 container carriers are European and Maersk the second biggest in the world is Danish.

The European right has anti- Americanism in its DNA, it is an essential part of what animates it, any sneaking regard it had for Trump was surface only.

The oldest pub likely lives within the Pale, and not subject to the depredations of a place like Sligo ( where I live) that according to the annals was burnt taken or destroyed every ten years or so in the late medieval to early modern period.

No harm to Sean's it is a fine pub but it's claim to antiquity is a case of the bigger the lie the the better the lie.

Far off by furthest Rosses
We foot it all the night,
Weaving olden dances
Mingling hands and mingling glances
Till the moon has taken flight;
To and fro we leap
And chase the frothy bubbles,
While the world is full of troubles
And anxious in its sleep.

TL:DR but Sean's claim stands out as Donald Trump sized lie, it's a great little pub all the same.

IGBTW is one of his greatest songs, it is so visual and I always think of it as a perfect little movie, there is no happy ever after but then there never is with Randy.

Make that free grain for those in need, the Romans invented social welfare and not necessarily from the goodness of their hearts more like so the patrician elite avoided being thrown in to the Tiber in a sack with snakes and ferrets for company by the proles.
