Working at a paper mill & living in the red dirt South, I’m never short on writing material. Love music, nature, growing things, home in all its forms, kindness in a harsh world.

I think about this all the time. I don’t talk politics on social media as a rule, but it is a national shame to turn Ukraine over to Russia.

I’m relieved and overjoyed to report that I passed the national registry EMT exam this morning, culminating a process that was, from end to end, one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. I think it was my lucky socks 😊.

On one hand, I’m sad for Betty Jo because she’s stuck in a thrift mall booth in Columbus, GA, presumably because there are no sisters left to hold her picture dear. On the other hand, Betty Jo is clearly a baller, and I may go back this weekend and pick her up off waivers.

The good ole boy who teaches our EMT class ran medic calls in Monroe County, AL, for years, up to and including Harper and Alice Lee, who he says were both proper and eloquent southern ladies most of the time, but you didn’t want them to go country on your ass

For the past 4.5 months, I’ve been in an EMT class. Today, I’m riding an ambulance for the first time, doing clinicals. It is awe-inspiring and really serves to remind me how much we all have in common. Pics are on a run to the training field—no patients involved.

I told a friend recently that I’d been back and forth on leaving social media but I hated to leave the bright spots and I hated even more to cede the space to nihilism.
