For people in the ED after an overdose, community follow-up with recovery coaching was associated with reduced risk for a later fatal overdose. But the most severe patients were less likely to receive this follow-up.

Veterans who experienced military sexual trauma are at much higher risk of suicide and opioid overdose, and often at younger ages. Female veterans also face higher risk, underscoring the need for targeted support.

People who use drugs situationally, like festivalgoers, and people who sell drugs are more likely to use drug-checking services. Lower tolerance, lower trust in the drug supply, and wanting to know what’s in their drugs drive this behavior...

Policies can reduce alcohol use and related harms – by raising alcohol prices, through taxes or by setting minimum prices, and having fewer places to buy alcohol. In contrast, banning discounts does not seem to make much difference.

Most patients receiving medical detoxification for alcohol know less about withdrawal medications than regular prescriptions. This could be due to the novelty of these short-term withdrawal medications compared to their longer-term regular prescriptions.
