That dark grey doughnut-shaped thing on the the carpet is a small hand-crocheted neck gaiter (or infinity scarf) that Mi Madre made for her dog. Upper left-top thing on the floor: one of my hand-built mini CR boxes to clean the air of fur, fuzz, dust, etc.

Mi Madre took this one of me 7 years ago.
That was the year of her heart attack, and me later staying for weeks at a time to clean & pack up her house for its sale & her move-in with my sibling.
Back when my blind left eye was still a solid orb, and I still felt pretty/safe in public spaces. Three-quarters profile view, as I gaze rightward through a restaurant window.

Morning walk
Middle-aged mixed race woman (me) in a long cream colored sweater, with 2 sand-colored crochet squares for deep pockets sewed on. Also wearing cute lilac purple boots, a lilac facemask, and my black-painted Tilley hat. Zoomed-in photo of me wearing the hoodie over my head. Mi Madre crocheted it out of the same sand-colored yarn she used for the pockets on my long cream-colored sweater. I look sort of doofus but it’s awesome to finally have the option to pull this over my head whenever I wear this sweater. You can see the buttons I used to replace the boring originals; they’re inch-long squares, cream-colored with cinnamon lines in… a diamond shape? centered inside radiating lines.

Bright green caterpillar maybe 10 or more cm diameter and 3.5 inches long. Still asleep on the tomato plant stem. Motherfuckin Poop Maker two: tobacco hornworm or tomato hornworm. Bright green caterpillar with pattern-stripes of white and green dots. Passed on the wood deck surrounded by poop after its tomato-plant-eating-orgy. Photo got taken upside down but who cares, this vandal doesn’t need a glamor shot.

Red sunflowers that Spouse planted are blazing with color.

Purple Cabbage Soup originally created by Christina Ng circa Aug. 2001 Pour some safflower or canola oil into a large stainless steel pot. Warm gently. Add the following in this order: sliced leek whites + some green (1 fat stalk preferred), or sliced white onion minced garlic cloves, 2-4 chopped Roma tomatoes, 3-6 dried oregano, 1 good pinch Stir-fry over medium-high heat. When tomatoes break down & thicken, stir in: sliced celery stalk, 1 with leaves seeded & chopped red and green Anaheim chilies, 1 or 2 each When vegetables are brightly-colored, slowly add boiling water. (If using cold water, add slowly by soup-ladle, to lessen impact on flavors.) Aim for a thick broth and chunky soup. Stir occasionally til it's boiling gently. Then add: purple cabbage, medium-small, sliced/chopped into 1" squares etc. Add more hot water if needed. Boil-simmer. Stir in and taste-test: yellow or white miso paste (start with 2 tbsp.) Miso saltiness varies among brands. Taste and stir occasionally; add more miso if desired. Boil-simmer til done. Good hot or cold. Try with hot brown rice. The weird purple color gets more vivid with fridge storage time. - All ingredients fresh unless noted. - Change amounts according to personal taste, & size of produce. - If using a heavier pot, e.g. Le Creuset, adjust for temps and length of cooking times.
