To Bristol! Not only to take advantage of the classic Greggs breakfast deal, but more importantly to see our SW @recpress.bsky.social members all day. Best bit of the job - there’s quite a lot to discuss…

Thanks to @telegraphnews.bsky.social for allowing us to set out some NHS workforce realities this morning. Yes there are issues - but their aren’t about the presence of flexible workers in the NHS. If we worked together we could address them. @recpress.bsky.social is ready to help.

Early start to talk to @bbcbreaking-bot.bsky.social for @recpress.bsky.social about business concerns on the Employment Rights Bill at a time when firms are facing a cascade of costs and shedding staff. Important that details of changes are not rushed. And it is light outside before half six!

All labour supply is local…

From discussing the vital role @recpress.bsky.social members play in getting people into work locally on last night’s One Show to talking about economic, political and workforce challenges in Gloucs today with 40 businesses and REC members Juice Recruitment.

Not secret though is it? That’s why you’ve just been able to send me a push notification about it…

Might do @houseofcommons.parliament.uk Business and Trade Committee in Jan like this. Give the narrative a lift. Sure @liambyrnemp.bsky.social won’t mind… Happy Christmas.

Early start chatting jobs market & Govt policy with @bbcbreaking-bot.bsky.social - firms cautious now. NI rise, NMW rise & undercooked Employment Rights Bill all playing a role. If Govt wants growth - & fundamentals are good - take time with changes & make them practical for biz.

Great to be in Dublin tonight for #ERFAwards - always the first night of Christmas! Love celebrating the great work of talent, staffing and recruitment professionals changing the world!

Pleased to give evidence to the Employment Bill Committee in the House of Commons, raising concerns that REC members have about the plans with the Government Minister, Opposition and backbenchers. The REC is uniquely positioned to represent talent, staffing & recruitment firms.

Early shift - talking about Government labour market policies with Lukwesa Burak on BBC Business - big plan on getting UK working out today - but the private sector is key and Budget impact an issue.

Almost ready to welcome our guests for #RECAwards24 - see you soon #Recruiters!
November 21, 2024 at 5:06 PM
I was pleased to join a small delegation of major sector bodies for a meeting with the team at No 10 this evening.

With challenges resulting from the Budget, and a big regulatory agenda, it was good to share concerns raised by REC members & discuss how to get growth going.

Enjoyed chatting to @bloomberg.com Radio and LBC this morning about the economy, the jobs market and the need to inject some dynamism in the Budget. Challenges with skills and the Employment Bill need to be taken head on if they aren’t going to hamper growth.
October 15, 2024 at 8:02 AM
Early start in London for a media round on what REC members are seeing in the jobs market as experts in how businesses are reacting to the current economy. Some of the offices still have their head in the clouds…
October 15, 2024 at 5:49 AM
To Liverpool! Decent game of rugby reffed & now to Lab conference. Our big focus is choice in our jobs market - flex meets worker & company needs done well. And REC members do it well. Looking f’ward to co-hosting British Business Reception tomorrow w/ CBI & other sector feds.
September 22, 2024 at 2:09 PM
On Friday, it was good to welcome @bankofengland.bsky.social Chief Economist and MPC member Huw Pill to a discussion with REC member Chief Execs. From the outlook to hiring behaviour changes - a useful ongoing conversation!

Hmm. If I wanted a business view on changes to employment law, I would have asked people with profit and loss responsibility in a business, not middle
managers in HR (though their expertise is critical).

Great day off the grid visiting Salisbury Plain and the lost village of Imber on #Imberbus

Today's edition of the REC #LabourMarketTracker, produced with Lightcast offers us some insight into the market in July. Overall story is pretty stable. Still about 1.7m active ads, with slightly fewer new ones last month... (1/2)

The room where it happens. As an industrial relations guy, I really value the willingness of this government to open up difficult and challenging issues in how we regulate the labour market. Whatever we do, the flexibility that firms need and workers want should be protected.
