There are commercials from the 60s I can quote but I couldn't tell you what's popular now. I remember when the USA network went off the air at 12:00-1:00AM. The world would just shut up for a few hours (unless you turned on the radio). I think it's more likely you miss the Shutting Up part...

I worked at the 7-Eleven next door to Santa Clara University during that time, and we played the hearings over the PA in the store. There was an incredible amount of interest shown by the students when they came in.
