Reclaim The Records

Cheerfully introducing government agencies, archives, and libraries to Freedom of Information laws since 2015.
First we fight and win a four year public records lawsuit, but *then* we really get to work making the data free and usable...

We got baseball player (and veteran) Ty Cobb's C-File from the VA yesterday! ⚾

A genealogist/researcher (who asked to remain anonymous) submitted a FOIA request through our new BIRLS website on December 26th.

Today, 37 days later, he let us know that he received his relative's C-File (benefits claims file) from the VA.

And oh my goodness, what a file. 😳

It's January, so it's time for our annual Missouri Sunshine Law love letters to/with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS)!

(two of the people cc'ed are our attorneys at LathropGPM)

Today we received a C-File from the VA (ordered via our new BIRLS website, of course), for a deceased veteran who is NOT listed in the BIRLS database.

And, um, actor Kirk Douglas does not seem to have left the Navy for quite the reasons that his Wikipedia bio says he did. 😳
