Learning, improving, and lifting up others
Do not focus on winning, focus on playing a beautiful game.

he/him
Absolutely, at the end of the day it is art and a way to express yourself.

I always appreciate seeing the human bleed through in the production.

I think a lot about those memey ".exe" montages. Not usually MY vibe, but often tell a good story and the heart/charm will always win me over.

I think it is more about HOW you use the clips than the clips themselves being worthy of including a montage.

I don't watch montages to dissect the merit of a clip. I am looking to FEEL something.

If I had one piece of advice to Splat montage makers, it would be to lean into the music more.

(not on your end, you are already chilling at the top of the mountain🐐)

I just hope that as people get older and graduate from competitive, they can use some of their clout and respect to be the "adults" in these very siloed servers.

It may already be happening, I don't have visibility to know.

I do think the old guard could be a big help (for those that are interested) to discuss these topics as highly respected members of the community.

(Cynical take but) Some of these discussions feel driven less from wanting systemic change, and more bitterness from not being part of the "in" group.

I think it is natural and healthy for competition to drive the development of these behaviors. Especially since our community is literally designed to cater to the ego.

It is the lack of accountability within the self, inner circles, and greater community that is more concerning. Kids will be kids.

Any schmuck at +3 or above could tell you how to improve your mechanics, how to win a teamfight, and what to look for in order to improve game sense. What is so often missed is how to approach that advice, how to implement it consistently, and how to not let outside factors stunt your growth. (end🧵)

I have recently found huge holes in my own process and self that reflects in improving as a player. I've been so much happier with myself in all aspects of life as a result.

I have debated on wanting to make content around these topics because it feels irresponsible to talk without formal edu.

I've been really struggling/reflecting with this from both a coach/analyst and player perspective.

I will NEVER discourage more Splat content/analysis (always good), but recently I have had a feeling the biggest issues are around the learning "process" or other internal struggles within the human.

It warms my heart to hear you are putting in the work and people are so receptive!

I've always valued the skills you can develop outside of the game that you carry with you for the rest of your life.

My thoughts around giving and taking extend more generally in the community, but I found it interesting to apply it here.

I do agree with your thoughts. (Back in my day 👴) we only had X Rank + Sendou Q-ish + LANs to play the game. Siloing players/practice seems needlessly (harmfully) complex imo.

We are all people at the end of the day. Social creatures that like to feel special and make connections and help where we can.

Make it easy for people to say yes. Be flexible to schedule around them. Make the burden on them as small as possible. Use it for content idk... be creative!

I like the framing of "giving and taking" because it is important to sustain a community.

The desire to play with "better people" is also a sacrifice from others to have "worse practice".

Giving AND taking are healthy with a proper balance, but I often sense an imbalance of trying to "take".

You are the ultimate filter in your learning journey.

If taking it literally makes you reflect on dying in your matches often and aim to think about the game deeper, 👍

If it leads to "0 deaths" as your metric for playing "well"... something something Goodhart's law, 👎
November 11, 2025 at 12:07 AM
Over time, high level players (grey/jordan especially) started to really refine that "feed" playstyle with cooler using QSJ. They still push their aggression while increasing cooler uptime.

Dying is inevitable, but sometimes people can get "lazy" with dying when often there is a way to refine.
November 10, 2025 at 10:53 PM
I wouldn't take it literally, just hyperbole to drive a point home.

More specifically, dying IS always bad so you need a VERY good reason to offset that burden. That calculation is hard to quantify.

I think about early cooler meta where it was generally accepted that cooler = "go feed".

Visualization helps me prepare before and also during "downtime" of a match.

Finding a pick, needing big vs small vs no push, play defense around a specific part of map... What does that look like? Positioning? How will fights play out? Special vs no special? Helps me stay focus and plan ahead.

was impressed with your splash early in the season. but holy moly your mini is INSANE
November 9, 2025 at 2:03 AM
LMAO I appreciate you! That makes a ton of sense and your insight helps a ton. I can definitely see the appeal and fun of how the game is structured after watching the comp 1v1 stuff.

Thank you for entertaining my questions, I feel enlightened 🙏
November 9, 2025 at 12:05 AM
- do stats have a big influence on the minigame?

- are some minigames basically decided beforehand (something like drag race)?

- is there a lot of "randomness" to these 1v1s?
November 8, 2025 at 9:46 PM
this is dope! I'm starting to have even more questions but seeing people be thoughtful about the game is super helpful!

(not sure how sweaty you get with the game) but are playing building for:
- what they are comfy with?
- best "general" build?
- adapting to what the game gives you?
November 8, 2025 at 9:43 PM
The actual "gameplay" is incredibly refreshing. From the racing to City Trials (both the gathering and minigame phases).

I want to see how others build, I want the minigames to be a bigger spectacle(?)

The game left me wanting more in the best way, but I'll have to see what the full game offers.

The goat speaks, I appreciate the thoughts! 🙏

This game gives me such conflicting feelings. The movement and variety in characters/karts was awesome.

I think my biggest desire is that I want to "interact" with the other players more. Whether that be with competition or the game's presentation.
