There is just something spooky about plane wrecks, especially with the wind blowing all the time and no people being around. A very cool find along the road, we did not plan this but spotted it from the road.

one more DC-3 pic

As the plane slowed down already at the moment of the incident, no one was injured as far as I could find information about this crash. The plane was stripped for useful parts and stood near the runway, until 2023, when it was moved to its current location (Eyvindarholt)

This was the first time I noticed those small, birch-like trees growing in this peculiar shape at the top of the canyon walls. The further we got into the canyon, the narrower it got, until it was not even 2m wide and, looking upwards, felt a bit like we climbed into a cave

We had some more waterfalls ahead of us and therefore decided to start with the northern-most of them, Nauthúsafoss. To get to the waterfall, we had to carefully step alongside the stream through a damp canyon.

The river, as I mentioned earlier, has many separate, smaller streams (at least this time of the year) as it gets closer to the sea. The amount of gravel there was just crazy.

And maybe you spotted it already in the far distance. If not, take a look again and compare with this picture:

This was our first view of the famous Vestmannaeyjar islands. In that misty view it almost looked like they were floating above the horizon like a ghost ship.

We went further up, chasing the next high in this rapidly changing landscape ahead of us.
October 30, 2025 at 9:13 PM
This one was even had a path to its right side, so we took the chance to get a better view of the entire landscape.
On the way up, let's take a better look at the waterfall. Notice the perfectly clear water that was just making its way through the small gap in the rock up ahead.

Just 5 minutes away from this days first drippy landmark, we spotted the second waterfall, Gluggafoss
