The divides we see today are no accident. Since 1989, the top 1% grabbed at least 987x more wealth per household than B20.
Policymakers have prioritized the wealthy over ordinary people. We get into Reagan on labor, Clinton's welfare reforms, Bush's tax cuts for the rich & more.

Unfortunately (unless you're a billionaire) the very rich do keep getting richer.
📈The richest 0.1%'s share of assets (12.6%) & the stock market (24%) are now higher than any time in modern history.
Such extreme wealth-->outsized power, corroding democracy.

NEW: @oxfamamerica.bsky.social's US inequality report🧵
10 richest Americans gained $698 billion in the past year.
As tens of millions struggle to get by, Trump policies could drive US inequality to new extremes.
We dive deep on how we got here, and the change needed.

So grateful to connect with global movements demanding justice at #FFD4.
A real source of hope. As we fight US efforts to take away families' food and healthcare to give billionaires tax breaks, and tank multilateralism to pad the profits of corporations.

We need to tackle inequality to improve the lives of people everywhere.
The good news is—we can.
Starting with taxing extreme wealth.
And rewriting outdated global economic rules.
We need fair representation of Global South countries, debt cancellation, a UN tax treaty, and more.

We focus on colonialism as a major driver of global inequality—historically, but also as a powerful force today.
Global North countries hold 69% of global wealth, but just 21% of the world's population.
And vast sums continue to flow from the Global South to the Global North.

Billionaires had a phenomenal 2024.
This tiny group—less than 3,000 people—gained $2 trillion dollars overall.
The world's 10 richest men gained on average $100 million a day.
If they lost 99% of their wealth, they would still be billionaires.

NEW: Oxfam's global inequality report🧵
Billionaires gained $2 trillion in 2024, 3x the rate of '23.
At this pace we expect 5 trillionaires in a decade. While billions live in poverty.

It's not fair for wealthy tax cheats to get away scot-free, while the people who expose such abuse get locked up for excessive periods.

This week I did a deeply nerdy thing and attended SCOTUS arguments in Moore v US, a radical anti-tax case that could exacerbate inequality & set back efforts to tax the rich.
