You're probably thinking of "Tropic Magazine," which was a magazine insert of the Miami Herald in the 1970s. It's defunct now, so I had to find it in a periodical database.

Gluck's work refused to turn away from the ugly. In fact, she saw the beauty in the dirty mundanity of human existence.

That vision continues to echo in my writing. The mundane needs neither polishing nor transcendence to become art. It just needs the right writer to see it. 4/4

I just couldn't explain how much joy it gave me to be eviscerated by *the* Louise Gluck, especially not to her face. So she continued to believe I had a screw loose for year. Ha. Nonetheless, her work and her workshop left an indelible impression on me. 3/4
