Agreed people forget there was a time when we had real budgets passed. As a fed there are limitations to what we can plan and do without full budgets, it’s getting old.

I don’t disagree per se, someone had to blink at some point and let’s be real it was always going to be dems but they needed to get a better deal and needed assurances that the house would be on board otherwise it just makes them look weak for nothing.

Yes, this is my fear. I can’t do this again - we made ends meet out of sheer coincidence but post holidays I have no idea how to survive February/March without pay again.

I will say for all the yelling about these dems caving I do hope everyone is laser focused on their own senator bc that is all they care about - whether you are their constituent or not.

I agree, this is a lot of pain but it was bearable if it was worth something in the end. As a furloughed fed worried we won’t get backpay and with many colleagues who were RIFed during the shutdown I appreciate those items were included, but it makes no sense to give up now.

I’m far from an expert on history or politics but I am now old enough to have lived through history and I remember when policies Mamdani has suggested were par for democrats. everything feels so skewed lately.

They have to find a way forward that seems like a compromise, there is no other solution here. The way forward will be a CR that ties in health care subsidies somehow. What other solution is there? Ideally they need an actual budget and actual health care plan but that isn’t even on the table.

We have to be very careful between politics and policy. Once someone is elected we can discuss the implications of their policies in practice but can‘t say much publicly during a campaign. We can in our private time and lives, but with social media that line is very thin.

Interesting the states listed they plan to apply in. It’s quite a leap to move from NYC to the south, wouldn’t a move to Delaware or Pennaylvania make more sense? Perhaps they want an environment that feeds on their need to be openly corrupt and racist?

I know this isn’t the point but I never worried about him running for a third term bc he won’t make it that long. Not even saying it in a wishful way just matter of fact, he maybe has one year left at most before something has to give.

My family who lives in one of those small towns get so enraged by this dialogue. They have a handful of Ukrainian refuges they happily took in and the kids seem to be a-ok.

How is this legal? So many businesses offering us furloughed Feds special discounts and deals, places have military discounts, or deals for teachers. How is gov telling a business how to run their business?

Exactly, what I have learned about SNAP which I didn’t know before is how little people get in benefits. I foolishly thought they received enough to buy food with. If I could change one thing about SNAP it would be to expand the amount people get.

We have a lot of people who drive kids in to trick or treat. I like that they come from nearby apartments bc our neighborhood has sidewalks & we prepare by getting lots of candy, but the car aspect gets dangerous. Even if you can’t get out it’s still safer to park & let kids come back to you.

Completely agree, the hardline republican maga folks will never blame the Rs no matter how bad it gets for them. They will fully believe they have no food bc Ds want transgender for everyone. They can’t win the narrative but they may win extending the credits.

I have to disagree, they threatened to dismantle programs if the dems didn’t give in last March and then they went ahead and shuttered those programs anyhow. If the gov was open more people would have been fired, they only stopped bc it’s illegal to do during a shutdown.
