I too regret that I learned things on duolingo - I did all of German in about 2 years, then did stuff independently before enrolling in a German intensive class in Germany. The app claims I was at B1, I would say I was in the first half of B1 - which is not nothing! (I did know German before)

also my contact with the prairies is via family, and I’m never sure how much (very specific kind of) Mennonite culture aligns with overall problematic whiteness, and what ways it remains distinct.

I just returned to the US (via preclearance in an airport) from Canada and turned off all my devices because apparently they can’t ask for passwords (which are required on startup) only face id (which I don’t have) or fingerprint (which I do). maybe cheaper than a new or fake phone?

I am Canadian and am a prof at an R1 in the US. There are a lot of us and I guarantee that if we could get jobs many of us would go home. First there would have to be jobs - but in the most basic economic sense, the Canadian government invested in my degrees, it should see some of the benefits.

Really? I’m Mennonite background and have always felt conflicted about this because the violence of the oppressor is different than the violence against said oppressors
