One grandfather who served would only discuss some experiences and not others owing to the trauma he experienced.

Absolutely. I had some grandparents who also remembered WW1 and learning from them about their experiences of that history was fascinating.

I had been staying on because of union comms there - but there is more of that here/elsewhere now, and I was so disgusted after the salute incident that I deleted mine after it.
