This week the Cambridge team attended the Secret Maps exhibition at the British Library. We enjoyed exploring the fascinating history of covert cartography, and we’re especially grateful to curator Nick Dykes for introducing us to the collection.

Eid Mubarak to all those marking Eid al-Adha today ✨

This beautiful Qur’an manuscript is held in a bespoke satchel. It was made in Nigeria in the 19th century, and is now part of the Royal Commonwealth Society collections @theul.bsky.social

For this week’s #heritagehighlight we turn to the Moj Garh Fort, Pakistan. Built in 1742AD by Emperor Maroof Khan Kehrani, the fort now lies in ruins. MAHSA Research Assistant, Afifa Khan visited the site with Professor of History, Dr Samia Khalid and Lecturer Waqar Mushtaq from IUB

#mappingmonday Today, we are looking at Harrand Fort, located near to the town of Harrand, Punjab Province, Pakistan.

The Hindu Shahi period fort (now ruin) was built with sixteen sides, depicted in this Survey of India map from 1924, with an almost cloud (or cauliflower 🥦) like drawing!

For #MappingMonday we turn to this site from the IUB‘s recent fieldwork in Pakistan which was detected using maps and remote sensing which were then ground-truthed. Whilst the edges of the site have been impacted by cultivation and cattle, the central part of the site remains in good condition.

My favourite MAHSA side project - an AR sandbox to demonstrate how mound features in the landscape can be shown using colours and lines on a 2D map. Also hugely therapeutic. Original here: web.cs.ucdavis.edu/~okreylos/Re...
