My tenure letter arrived today, a day I never thought I’d see (those of you who know my history understand why).

I did it. I really did it.

I’m devastated by the loss of David Lynch, whose work has had such an impact on me. Have some damn fine coffee, up there!

Reminds me of the year AMS was in the same hotel as the Kentucky Muscle Competition…

Do I know anyone who writes album reviews or concert reviews not targeted toward academics or does any other type of public writing, broadly defined (for instance, podcast scripts count) who might be willing to virtually visit my public musicology class this spring?

Got word today that I was promoted early to Associate Professor as of August 2024. I’m over the moon, humbled, and grateful. Next stop, tenure (that file goes in in August—the same rules that allowed me to stand for promotion early also prevented me from standing for tenure early)!

It has been a LOOOOONNNGG day making tweaks and changes and filling out forms, but FINALLY my fourth book, David Lynch: Sonic Style, is moving into the copyediting phase of production as we speak!

I’ve been so busy lately with different things in different parts of my life that I’m now irrationally excited for my yarn delivery this afternoon so I can take some time for myself and start a scarf I’ve been wanting to make for a while.

Someday I will learn that if I drink coffee past 2pm that I will not be able to shut my brain off at night. Clearly, I did not learn that lesson today.
