Writer/musician Lawrence Lanahan hosts Rearranged, an Osiris Media podcast that considers the meaning we take from songs by examining an underappreciated aspect of their creation: the arrangement. Subscribe at https://www.osirispod.com/podcasts/rearranged
The space, movement, and dynamics of the arrangements encouraged great interplay. And they were open enough for Harrison to hand out extra choruses on the fly with a simple wave. Idiom schmidiom. Taking those songs out of their traditions brought the audience closer to the players and the music.

The arranging inspired wonderful playing and singing. Evelyn Jack sang "O Death" chillingly and convincingly. Plenty of great solos from Harrison, drummer Rudy Royston, organist Gary Versace, saxophonist Greg Tardy, violinist Darol Anger, and bassist Stephan Crump.
