Historical crime writer (current WIP sees Isambard Kingdom Brunel's sister Emma act as an amateur sleuth), tour guide at the Brunel Museum, freelance tour guide offering "Visiting London in the 18th & 19th Century" walks, WaSh Wombles co-director
I went to "History East: A Festival of History at Queen Mary" last night & loved the "History & Fiction" panel with Paterson Joseph, Sarah Waters, Stella Tillyard & Philippa Gregory. I even asked the panel a question & their answers really motivated me to keep going with my own writing 🥰

As part of a current Research Forum series, Prof Matthew McCormack came to the Brunel Museum today and gave a fascinating talk on "Studying the History of Boots & Shoes".
I've learned a lot about the importance of footwear and look forward to diving deeper into the subject with Matthew's book 😊

On Thursday I gave my talk on Emma Brunel at the East London History Society for Women's History Month and people really enjoyed learning more about her. ☺️👩🎩

Will share more details about the talk in a blog post soon 🙂

Really looking forward to my talk on Emma Brunel at the East London History Society next month where I'll be sharing my current research results and also explain how fiction helps me to fill in the gaps. 😊💜

Comfort read while being plagued by a cold (once again 🙃)

Happy 209th book birthday to one of my favourite Jane Austen novels! 🥳❤️

Am wondering if Emma Brunel (aka my MC) might have liked it as well. She was nearly 12 when "Emma" was first published, so the chances that she read the book at some point in her life are quite high... ☺️

My "Visiting London in the 18th & 19th Century" guided walks are featured in a local culture magazine. ☺️

If anyone's still looking for a present to do some special, there are still some tickets left for my Wapping tours on 1st & 3rd January '25 😊🎩⚓️

Happy 181st book birthday to the iconic "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens 🥳🎩🎅❤️

I went to see A Sherlock Carol at the Marylebone Theatre yesterday and it was absolutely fantastic. ❤️

In the play two worlds collide when a grown up "Tiny Tim" asks Sherlock Holmes to investigate the death of his patron, Ebenezer Scrooge. At Christmas. The Game is afoot 🔍🎩🎅🎄

Miss Austen Investigates by @jessicabull.bsky.social is one of my favourite reads of 2024, and I can't wait for the release of the sequel next year ❤️🎩

As the year comes to a close, here are my favourite reads of 2024 😊📚❤️

(Note: Even though the majority of these fantastic books were released this year, some of them are also a little older but still deserve a shout out from me 🥰)

My book club's December read is "Julia" by Sandra Newman, which is a re-telling of Orwell's dystopian novel "1984".

I find this line particularly chilling and really like to avoid living in such a horrible world: 😬👇

This "Enola Holmes" style murder mystery unfolds in 1825 when Emma, sister of famed civil engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel, dresses like a man to investigate her suitor's death after his body is discovered at the Thames Tunnel construction site. 👩🎩🚇🔎

As a big fan of Turner I really love my wall calendar for 2025. 🥰🎨

(Probably unsurprisingly) one of my favourite paintings by him is "Rain, Steam & Speed - The Great Western Railway", in which a GWR train rushes over Brunel's Maidenhead Bridge on its way to Bristol ❤️🚆🎩

Got myself a little treat & some additional motivation from Jane Austen to get my WIP ready for querying by the end of the year. 🤞😊👩🎩

I'm celebrating six years living in (East) London this weekend. Best decision ever! ❤️🍹

The Society of Antiquaries has been at Burlington House for 150 years now, which they celebrated with a fantastic Victorian themed event tonight. ❤️

People were also encouraged to dress in period attire & some even won a bottle of Champagne for their costumes (including me) 🍾🥰

I went to the Social Value 2024 awards at the British Museum with the team of one of my litter picking groups last night and am pleased to say that we were one of the winners. 😊

Feeling slightly grumpy about the way real women like Mary Bennet/Penelope Featherington were treated in the past, so here's a little shout out to them. It's so important that they are no longer dismissed. ❤️

I'm reading The Bells of Westminster at the moment and really enjoying it ❤️

Had a productive afternoon working on my WIP and some delicious festive biscuits as a little treat to keep me going. 😊

STEAM ahead 🙌

This Sunday I'm gonna be at The Futures Fair in Kensington, which is mainly inspired by the life & work of civil engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel. 🎩

Really looking forward to promoting Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts (❤️) & Mathematics with the Brunel Museum there 😊
